I paused a moment, completely dumbstruck,
Could this be a stroke of sheer dumb luck?
"We just want to talk," the officer had said,
So maybe it wasn't time to visit that eternal bed?
"We have a deal that may interest you,
Since we can see how well you do.
There's a fugitive of a dark cult on the loose,
So maybe you still have a use."
Dear God, I guess I won't die after all,
As they seem to want my death forstalled.
But what does this demon worshiper have in common with me?
Well, I guess I'll ask and see.
"What do you want me to do?" I shout up the stairs,
"Come up here so we can talk, you won't be in our crosshairs."
Carefully I ascend and I notice at once,
That I would, to shoot, be a stupid dunce.
Twelve armed men all standing tall,
I guess I'll see what they want after all.
"We have a job for a killer like you,
Somone quick, deadly, effective, and expendable too."
"Just give me the job and let me walk,
Then we shall have a little talk."
The officer waited and thought for a second,
Then said, "If you catch him, we'll end our hunt."
"Good," I purred, delighted beyond belief,
So once I found a beautiful relief.
"Where do I go and who do I kill?"
"You'll know when we get there and not until."
I merely shrugged, planning my work,
I'd kill someone for these jerks.
It's my line of duty, something I enjoy,
And then I walk free with all intent to destroy.
What a deal, I can hardly wait!
So we began our travel across the state.
They spared no time and no expense,
And I was shoveled full of pretense after pretense.
Soon we arrived at a city I knew well,
New York City, burn in hell!
So here was my quarry, my delightful prey,
Someone like me, I don't know what to say!
Maybe a challenge is to be found this time,
Or maybe we'll go together like lemon and lime?
But I want to kill, no allyship shall be made,
Until a blood quota has been paid.
So I hunt one more time in this city,
No limits, no crime, and oh so giddy.
This'll be fun, now where's my weapon?
Oh ho ho, what have you done?
I see a rifle and shotgun and so much more,
I can use any of these, are you sure?
You may regret the choice you make, dear officers,
But you think I can do no more harm than this cur.
Well, you shall see soon enough,
That I am by far more tough.
