Puppets and Peons
I stand before a keyless door
I don’t know what I’m looking for
I’m being stripped down to the core
I’m caught up in an endless war
I’ve lost my hope I’ve lost my will
Ignore it all I’ve had my fill
All that’s happened amounts to nil
And through it all time just stands still
Eternity in every day
Everyone’s looking my way
They say don’t go please come and stay
But what am I supposed to say
I have to hold the dark off day and night
Inevitable entropy in sight
All I see is black not the promised white
Running in the dark looking for some light
Face ice’s stinging bite and fire’s raving char
It’s all the same, kings, emperors, and tzars
Naught but dust in the wind glinting afar
Slaved to the cold gaze of merciless stars
Puppets and peons who try to survive
Is there any meaning to be alive
But I think that’s reason enough to strive
